Chiropractic answering service: keep the new patient who called at lunch
A chiropractic answering service answers when the front desk is in with a patient or the clinic is closed, and its main job is simple: do not lose the new patient. It books first visits, moves adjustments, answers insurance and cash-price questions, and passes anything about pain or injury to the doctor. A live service does that by the minute; an AI receptionist does it at any hour and puts the booking straight into your scheduler.
Chiropractic offices often run with one person at the front, who is also checking patients in and out. The phone rings while they are mid-conversation, the caller hits voicemail, and a new patient in pain books with whoever answers first. Returning patients are more forgiving; new ones are not.
What do people call a chiropractic office about?
New patient wanting a first visit
Books the new-patient slot, takes the reason for the visit and how they heard of you
To:The doctor at the visit
Move or cancel an adjustment
Moves it by your rules for plan visits and cancellation windows
To:No one
Do you take my insurance? What does a visit cost without it?
Answers from your plan list and cash prices
To:Billing, for a specific claim
Pain after a visit, or a new injury
Does not advise. Takes the details and flags them for the doctor, or tells the caller to seek urgent care if your protocol says so
To:The doctor
Personal injury or workers' comp case
Records the claim type and the attorney or employer details your intake needs
To:Your PI coordinator
Live answering service, AI receptionist or voicemail for a chiropractor?
| Live answering service | AI voice agent | Voicemail | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it is billed | Per minute or per call, with a monthly bundle and overage | Per minute of the line, plus a one-off setup of the scenarios | Nothing, beyond the phone line |
| A call at 2 a.m. | Answered, usually by an agent working many accounts at once | Answered in about a second, same as at 2 p.m. | A recording nobody hears until morning |
| Ten calls in the same minute | Queue, or overflow to whoever is free | Ten conversations at once, up to the capacity you bought | Ten messages, some of them hang-ups |
| What lands in your system | A message, emailed or typed into a portal | Structured fields in your CRM or calendar, plus the transcript | An audio file |
| A question the script does not cover | A person improvises, or takes a message | Answers from your price list and rules, or hands the call over | Not applicable |
| A new patient during a busy hour | Answered if the service is not queued | Answered and booked at once | Often lost to the next clinic |
The rule. If most of your calls are bookings, reschedules and price questions, an AI receptionist covers them completely and costs least per call. A live service makes sense if your intake depends on long conversations, for example personal injury cases with many details.
Our agent does not open the call by announcing that it is an AI. If a caller asks, it says so plainly, and it never claims to be a person.
A lunchtime call from a new patient
- CallerHi, I hurt my back lifting something and a friend recommended you. Do you have anything this week?
- AgentI am sorry to hear that. We have new-patient visits tomorrow at 4:30 and Thursday at 10. Will you be using insurance?
- CallerYes, Blue Cross. Tomorrow works.
- AgentWe are in network with Blue Cross. You are booked for tomorrow at 4:30; please bring your card. If the pain gets much worse or you feel numbness, go to urgent care rather than waiting.
An illustration of the flow; the plan names and warning are whatever your office sets.
Call the clinic demoWhat does a chiropractic answering service cost?
Live answering services sell bundles of minutes or calls. An AI agent costs a fraction of that per minute to run, but it has to be set up on your scenarios first, and that setup is the real price. These are the public numbers, read off each pricing page on 9 October 2026:
- PATLive
- $99 a month for 50 minutes ("about 20 calls"), $349 for 200 minutes; extra minutes $1.99-2.29
- Smith.ai (human receptionists)
- $300 a month for 30 calls, then $11.50 a call; $810 for 90 calls; $2,100 for 300 calls
- MyReceptionist
- $110 for 70 minutes, $195 for 150, $275 for 235, plus a $90 setup charge
- ElevenLabs Agents (the speech pipeline an AI agent runs on)
- $0.08 a minute beyond the plan allowance; the page does not say whether the language model is included
A chiropractic office's calls are short and frequent. Per-call pricing punishes that: at Smith.ai's $300 plan, 30 calls cost $10 each. Per-minute bundles are kinder, MyReceptionist's $195 buys 150 minutes, but still charge for every reschedule. An AI receptionist costs cents per call to run; its cost is the setup on your schedule and plans.
INITE Voice AI starts from $99 a month. Start is $99 a month (300 minutes included, then $0.25 a minute), inbound and outbound calls alike, set up from your industry template. Business is $299 a month (1,200 minutes included, then $0.20 a minute) with your CRM connected. A dedicated build inside your own perimeter starts from $25,000, then from $1,500 a month support. See the packages or delivery options and budget.
When is an AI receptionist the wrong fit for a chiropractor?
- If your intake for personal injury cases is a long legal interview, keep a person for those calls and let the agent take the rest.
- If your scheduling software cannot be connected, the agent can only take messages.
- Clinical advice is never the agent's job: pain, numbness or a new injury go to the doctor or to urgent care.
What does the agent need from a chiropractic office?
- 01Visit typesNew-patient, adjustment, re-exam, massage if you offer it, and how long each takes.
- 02Plans and pricesInsurance plans you take, cash prices, care-plan rules.
- 03The clinical lineWhich symptoms go to the doctor, which to urgent care.
- 04Your schedulerThe system bookings should land in, so the front desk sees them.
Chiropractic answering service: common questions
Can an AI receptionist book new patients for a chiropractor?
Yes, into your scheduler, with the intake questions you choose: reason for visit, insurance, referral source.
Does it handle insurance questions?
It answers from the list of plans and prices you give it. Questions about a specific claim go to billing.
What if a patient describes worrying symptoms?
It does not advise. It follows your protocol: flag for the doctor, or tell the caller to seek urgent care.
Is it cheaper than a per-call answering service?
Per call, yes, by a wide margin; the cost of an AI agent is mostly the setup. For an office with many short calls the difference adds up fastest.
Will patients know it is an AI?
It does not announce it. If asked, it says so plainly and never claims to be a person.
Hear it before you decide
Two minutes in the demo tell you more than this page: interrupt it, ask something off script, try to haggle. Then tell us how many calls your line carries. More on how an AI phone agent works on a real line is in our guide to testing one.
